Oregon Defense Shines in Tough Loss to UCLA - oregon defense
Safety Koi Perich recorded 11 tackles in Oregon’s 17-15 loss to UCLA.

Oregon’s defense arrived ready for action at Autzen Stadium on Saturday, but their offense struggled in a 17-15 loss to No. 21 UCLA, snapping the Ducks’ five-game losing streak to the Bruins and ending UCLA’s own skid.

Defensive Standout Koi Perich

While quarterback Dylan Raiola and the Oregon offense managed just 73 rushing yards and went 1-for-12 on third down conversions, the Ducks’ defense kept them competitive. Safety Koi Perich emerged as a key playmaker, recording 11 tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. His performance, which included forcing a safety in the end zone that set up a touchdown, helped Oregon stay within striking distance throughout the first three quarters.

Perich, who transferred from Minnesota and led the Big Ten in interceptions as a freshman, was instrumental in limiting UCLA’s offensive momentum. His second interception with 21 seconds left in the first half prevented the Bruins from extending their 10-6 lead. Linebacker Devon Jackson also contributed with seven tackles and a quarterback hurry, while outside linebacker Matayo Uiagalelei added six tackles, two sacks, and a blocked field goal.

Offensive Struggles and Turnovers

The Ducks committed seven turnovers, including three by Raiola, who was replaced by Brock Thomas in the fourth quarter. Thomas rallied the offense, connecting on a 44-yard touchdown pass to Evan Stewart with 2:16 remaining, cutting the deficit to 17-15. However, a failed 2-point conversion and subsequent missed opportunities sealed Oregon’s fate.

UCLA outgured Oregon 345-272, aided by five penalties for 45 yards. Oregon’s defense, which played nearly twice as many minutes as their offense, made key stops, including a fourth-down tackle by Teitum Tuioti at the Oregon 3-yard line.

UCLA’s defense forced multiple three-and-outs, with defensive tackle A’Mauri Washington recording two pass breakups and a key third-down stop.
