TGL golf’s first-ever trade has seen Shane Lowry move from The Bay Golf Club to Boston Common Golf, where he will join close friend Rory McIlroy. The move was confirmed by TGL, which noted that the partnership between Lowry and McIlroy gives Boston Common Golf a recognizable duo entering the new season.
In exchange for Lowry, The Bay received Boston Common Golf’s fourth-round selection in the roster formation process for the 2027 season, as well as the right to swap one selection position with Boston Common Golf during one of the next three TGL offseasons, and commercial considerations.
Lowry expressed his excitement about joining Boston Common Golf, saying he is looking forward to helping the team bring a championship to Boston. McIlroy, co-founder of TGL and Boston Common Golf Founding Member, also welcomed Lowry to the team, citing their past successes together, including at the Zurich Classic.
TGL Expansion and Roster Changes
Team rosters are also expanding to five players per team, up from four players last season.
Motor City joins six other teams, including Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, Los Angeles Golf Club, New York Golf Club, and The Bay Golf Club. The TGL roster process began with the league’s six returning teams, which had the option to keep up to four players from their 2026 roster.
