The New York Giants are reportedly adding a veteran pass rusher to their roster. Just moments after a 27-27 tie with the Washington Commanders, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported that the team will host former Pro Bowl defensive end Yannick Ngakoue for a workout on Monday, Oct. 12. The Giants currently hold an open spot on their 53-man roster, which could allow them to sign the veteran immediately following the visit.
Defensive Needs
The Giants are considering this addition due to injuries on their defensive line. Outside linebacker Brian Burns is out for the season with a torn ACL. While rookie Kayvon Thibodeaux has taken over the edge role, his performance has been inconsistent. Through the first five games, Thibodeaux has generated only seven pressures and no sacks. He recorded a single tackle against Washington in Week 5.

Ngakoue and Thibodeaux play similar positions, but they offer different strengths. Thibodeaux has traditionally been a better run defender, while Ngakoue excels in pass-rush situations. As the Nov. 10 trade deadline approaches, analysts have speculated that the Giants might look to trade Thibodeaux. The rookie does not carry any dead money on the team’s salary cap because his contract is expiring. This financial flexibility makes a roster move involving Thibodeaux a realistic option for New York.
